We are very proud that we live in a village where everyone does their bit to promote recycling, sustainability, beach cleans and reduce plastic pollution, we wanted to help in a way that would be a good fit for Seathrift and the many ladies that visit out Boutique.
Our bra bank gives our ladies a convenient and easy way to recycle their unwanted bras, but in doing so we are also delighted to see that they are either re-purposed or donated to developing countries where bras are a luxury item, and at the same time the money raised to go to a worthy cause.
The charity Against Breast Cancer raises vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research.
Donated bras help to support small businesses in Africa. Together with their recycling partners, this textile recovery project prevents these bras going into landfill before giving them a new lease of life in developing countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally.
Successful ventures like this keep many families in developing countries out of poverty whilst providing employment for people at home in the UK. Any bras that are genuinely beyond redemption are dismantled and disposed of properly.
For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund our research. With over 30 million women in the UK you could really help make a difference!
